Fabricut goes Greek!

Fabricut has just introduced its Athens Key trimmings. The 2 ⅝” tape modernizes the classic Greek key and adds a pop of color and warmth to the leading edge of drapery, a tailored sofa or pillows.

“Our Athens Key has a finer viscose and rayon construction, which results in a better, more quality appearance and a flatter sheen,” says Sharon Cash, director of trim development for Fabricut. “With more picks per inch, Athens Key is a fuller and more colorful design.”

It might be a traditional motif, but Athens Key’s 35 sophisticated colors – ranging from vibrant Tangerine, Sky and Primrose to soft Tussah, Rain and Camel neutrals – provide designers with various combinations for a fresh look; it’s the sleek, versatile and classic detail you’ve been missing.
Pictured above, from top to bottom are: Primrose, Lime, Sky, Tangerine and Emerald.

We hear there are over 4,000 new SKUs from Fabricut and its partners, Stroheim, Vervain, S. Harris and Trend brands that will hit the market over the next few months. Check back soon to see more!

In the meantime, be sure to check out Athens Key at the DDB (Suite 202) and PDC (Suite B470) and Jeffrey Michaels at the DCOTA (Suite A136).

Michelle Workman goes Hollywood Glam at the PDC

This morning we introduced you to Michelle Workman, who was nice enough to whisk us around the PDC with her while she shopped the building. So far we've seen some fabric and upholstery, but we're dying to know how she'll complete the look. Without further ado, here are the rest of her elements for her client's "Hollywood Glam" request. We hope she'll share the final product with us!

"After a coffee break, I stopped by Fabricut and come across this Vervain silk and velvet stripe that will be perfect for curtains. The dash of powder blue and grey with chartreuse-y gold will keep the right warmth in my scheme."

"...something about that gold makes me remember these magnificent sconces I saw at Lee Jofa. Perfect classic glamour!"

"And last but certainly not least, I'll use this amazing mirrored screen from Nancy Corzine. The starburst and rosette make it a must-have for this Hollywood interior."

Have your own shopping story to share from the DDB, PDC, DCH or DCOTA? Let us know what you love.

Product Pick: Vervain's La Boheme is Ou-La-La

Named for the opera La Boheme, which tells the story of two young Bohemians living in the Latin quarters of Paris, Vervain's newest fabric gets us thinking "ou-la-la." La Boheme is a free-spirited, exotic embroidery that we wouldn't mind having adorn our space—and couldn't we all use a little more boheme in our lives?

“La Boheme was inspired from a Central Asian Suzani,” said Nina Butkin, vice president of design for Vervain. “We simplified the original motif and placed it in a modern layout.”

The pattern is a modern adaptation of suzani patterning and features harmonious color combinations, including Lemon Meringue, Fiesta, Flamingo, Mosaic Blue and Purple Heather.

“Its color palette is inspired by the pleasing play of warm yellows, greys and taupes against cool greys and cooler yellows,” Nina said. “It adds an interesting palette to modern-traditional interiors.”

You can check out La Boheme in the Fabricut showroom at the PDC and DCH, in the Stroheim showroom at the DDB and in Jeffrey Michaels & Co. at the DCOTA.

Jeffrey Michaels Showroom Shines in the Face of Adversity

The showroom was formed the year after Hurricane Andrew blew through Florida in 1992 by dynamic duo, Diana and Michael Feibelman.
Jeffrey Michaels was first as an intimate 1,900 square feet showroom with a handful of wallcovering and fabric lines.

They moved to a 5,500 square feet showroom in order to accommodate their rapidly growing collection, which now included Fabricut, S. Harris, Vervain and Stroheim, Hartmann & Forbes.

Yet again, they are expanding to a renovated space, now 7,700 square feet, which will have a grand re-opening party on December 8 to celebrate their wonderful world of design.

Save the date and we hope to see you there!

Random Encounters: Brice Gaillard

Spotted in the D&D Building, Brice Gaillard was wearing her designer hat—but on other days, she's a stylist, and still other days, a freelance writer. When Go Design Go found her, the native Floridian was stepping into Kravet on the hunt for bold drapery textiles for a Westchester project. We're betting it took her forever to make it to those wings since she could barely make it past the entrance displays without stopping to compliment what she saw. She grabbed a couple throw pillows in a pattern called Jerry and rattled off her to-do list for the afternoon. After Kravet, she'd visit Pindler & Pindler, which she said had many affordable options, DuraleeRobert Allen/Beacon Hill and Fabricut, which she loves for its patterned fabrics. Before parting, Brice pointed the overscale floral, which was framed and mounted on the showroom walls. "I really like the idea of fabric or wallpaper as art," she said. Have you ever done that in a project, we asked? "Only for editorial!"

East Meet West with Robert Kuo Fabrics

S. Harris – Robert Kuo collection
Referred to as the Imperial craftsman of the 21st Century, Robert Kuo incorporates his Chinese heritage and artistic sensibility to his ever-growing collection of decorative arts, furniture, stone and tile, lighting and now, fabrics.

Kuo draws regularly on diverse influences ranging from the Han and Ming dynasties of China to the Deco and Nouveau periods of the West. He is inspired by both the organic forms of nature and the cultural motifs of man.

Robert Kuo for S. Harris is a reflection of these elements. The collection is based on the lines and textures of his current repoussé, cloisonné, and lacquer pieces beautifully interpreted into fabrics for the home. The patterns are simple, elegant and modern: evoking a feeling of balance, harmony and calm. Natural fibers are used throughout in an earthy, neutral palette encompassing silk, linen, chenille, matelassé, embossed velvet and innovative pleating techniques.

Robert Kuo for S. Harris is classic and timeless; imminently suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Pictured is pattern Cloisonné in colors Beryl, Dove and Red Clay.
