Richard Frinier outdoor fabrics for Pindler & Pindler

The charming, California-based Richard Frinier has been designing outdoor furniture for over thirty years. He has designed collections and licenses for prestigious companies include Dedon, Century Furniture, Sunbrella and Brown Jordan. His latest project is a collection of four fabrics for Pindler & Pindler.

His Signature Exclusive Sunbrella Collection is called Maison et Jardin, and is inspired, you guessed it, by Europe. Specially blended yarns, all 100% solution-dyed acrylic, are woven to create a linen look, whether on the plain, stripe, damask or fleur de lis incarnation.

Classique is the solid, available in 9 colorways; the stripe La Plage (pictured second from top) is available in five:

Fontainbleau is the name of the large-scale damask pattern with a hand-woven, vintage look, also available in five colorways (pictured at bottom):

Say oooh la la for yourself (and picture yourself swaddled in them in a field of Provencal lavender, too!) at the DDB (Suite 1536), PDC (Suite B530), DCH (Suite 4021), or DCOTA (Suite C230).

Pindler "fakes" it

As much as we love linen, sometimes we really need something more durable to stand up to summer's sweat and sunscreen. Pindler & Pindler's latest Signature Exclusive Indoor/Outdoor Weatherscape Collection looks like linen but is made of spun 100% solution-dyed polyester. With multiple colors of yarn used together, it really looks like the natural, albeit wrinkly natural material.

The Weatherscape Collection is UV resistant and easy to clean and comes in a variety of contemporary and traditional small and midscale patterns. Perfect for the outdoors (it meets up to 100,000 double rubs), the collection's neutral palette also makes it ideal indoors where you can appreciate it year round. Stop by Pindler & Pindler to see for yourself! PDC-Suite B530, DCH- Suite 4021, DCOTA-Suite C230 and DDB- Suite 1536.

Pindler & Pindler revisits the Hearst Castle

For its latest collection, Pindler & Pindler explored the iconic Hearst Castle in California. The fabric house was given access to the vast archives of fine decorative arts collected by William Randolph Hearst. Now there are two new introductions to the already successful Hearst Castle Collection.

Iberia is 100% linen, available in two colors. Its design was inspired by a 4th century BC Iberian clay vase acquired by William Randolph Hearst at auction in Spain. The vase is painted in a geometric pattern with raised relief and clay stain, the coloring of which was probably quite vibrant. The Pindler interpretation features a silk/viscose blend appliqué.

Stop by and see it for yourself at the PDC (Suite B530), DCH (Suite 4021), DCOTA (Suite C230) and DDB (Suite 1536).

Meet the designer: Darren Henault

We asked NYC designer Darren Henault to reveal some of his must-see showrooms at the DDB. Henault, one of the multitude of talented professionals available through the DDB's Designer Referral Program, is known for his luxurious and yet liveable environments, as seen in the bedroom of this NYC townhouse:

-Christopher Hyland. He's got the most gorgeous jacquards and lampas' I have ever seen. If you want super high quality, Old World weaving techniques, this is where to find it. Being a textile fan, it's love love love.
-Chesneys. We're currently installing a beautiful marble mantel into a home upstate New York. Chesney’s has got everything and if they don't, they will make it. They have done a very good job of offering very traditional profiles in a modern way by varying the stone selections.
-David Sutherland. They have got beautiful seating based on Louis XVI furniture. I'm tired of all of the distressed finishes that are ubiquitous and poorly done. They're doing furniture in a waxed, unfinished quality that is more beautiful.
-Farrow & Ball. Finally I can get their gorgeous colors in wallpapers as well.
-Fortuny.  Even before I visited the printing facility in Venice I was hooked.  Now I'm addicted.
-Gracie. We're using their papers in clean monochromatic tones, taking the tried and true and making it fresh and crisp.  The ever-lovely Jennifer Gracie is so nice to work with besides.
-Holland & Sherry. The ability they have to turn anything we come up with into the most exquisitely executed embroidery is unbelievable. I'm, of course, loving their new ever expanding rug collection which includes my own designs, including China Gate [pictured below].

-Jerry Pair & Associates. More and more clients who like traditional are asking for cleaner lines.  The Madeline Stuart collection is perfect and fits to a T.
-John Rosselli. If you are looking for a masterful mix of furniture, Bunny Williams and John Rosselli have done all the work for you.
-Pindler & Pindler. Wonderfully cheerful fabrics. If you're on a budget, you're going to find all of the same basic solids and textures here as everywhere else but for half the price.

Check back soon when we'll share what caught Henault's attention for summer on an afternoon of shopping at the DDB.

Product Pick: Pindler’s Newport Mansions Collection Adds New Design

Pindler & Pindler's signature exclusive collection takes us away to a comfortable and elegant mansion on Ocean Drive. The Epoque pattern damask design inspired by an 1890s silk jacquard from the archives of the Preservation Society of Newport County.

Pindler & Pindler's version is woven on a mercerized cotton warp and rayon fill, with attention to every intricate detail. Offered in five colorways, Epoque is finished with Teflon to complete a positively perfect pattern.

Product Spotlight: Pindler & Pindler's Panama-Inspired Fabrics

We've never been there, but we're guessing that if we went to Panama, we won't find fabrics as fabulous as Pindler & Pindler's new Indoor/Outdoor collection.

The line is part of their exclusive Hearst Castle Collection and its every bit of the exotic and romantic look that you might expect from the South American inspiration that made them.

The patterns were inspired by traditional molas, fabrics that make up women's clothing in Panama, and other artifacts collected by William Randolph Hearst on a Panamanian Trip he took in the 1920s. The collection offers transitional designs in fresh, lively color combinations. They are woven with 100% solution dyed Sunbrella® yarns, making the collection appropriate for a broad range of applications both indoors and outdoors.

View the entire collection at the Pindler & Pindler showroom at the PDC in Suite B530, or visit them online.

Random Encounters: Brice Gaillard

Spotted in the D&D Building, Brice Gaillard was wearing her designer hat—but on other days, she's a stylist, and still other days, a freelance writer. When Go Design Go found her, the native Floridian was stepping into Kravet on the hunt for bold drapery textiles for a Westchester project. We're betting it took her forever to make it to those wings since she could barely make it past the entrance displays without stopping to compliment what she saw. She grabbed a couple throw pillows in a pattern called Jerry and rattled off her to-do list for the afternoon. After Kravet, she'd visit Pindler & Pindler, which she said had many affordable options, DuraleeRobert Allen/Beacon Hill and Fabricut, which she loves for its patterned fabrics. Before parting, Brice pointed the overscale floral, which was framed and mounted on the showroom walls. "I really like the idea of fabric or wallpaper as art," she said. Have you ever done that in a project, we asked? "Only for editorial!"

Pindler & Pindler

Pindler & Pindler is pleased to introduce patterns 1950-Bandar, and 1952-Ceylon, the latest additions to our Signature Exclusive Newport Mansions Collection. These two crewel patterns were inspired by the tapestry upholstery used on the 18th century Louis XV furniture found within the Elms and Kingscote Mansions. Pindler’s patterns, 1950-Bandar and 1952-Ceylon,  have been hand-embroidered with quality wool yarns on a fine linen base cloth.  This traditional embroidery technique is still being produced by the same remote villages of Kashmir, India. Please visit the Pindler & Pindler Showroom in suite B530 to view the entire Signature Exclusive Newport Mansions Collection.
