Hartmann & Forbes debuts natural blinds, wallcoverings

You might be familiar with HARTMANN&FORBES, award-winning maker of natural window and wallcoverings of sustainable natural materials. The 14-year-old, Oregon-based company has just launched its first line of Handcrafted Natural Woodblinds. The Walnut, White Oak, Knotty Pine and Linden Collections each feature sustainably cultivated, genuine species of American timber and are made in America.

Bark:

Inspired by the authenticity and quality of the American furniture tradition, each is custom finished using multi-step, furniture-grade techniques like cerusing, weathering, washing and distressing. This painstaking and precise approach results in heirloom quality woodblinds offered in an unrivaled range of custom finishing options.

As if that isn't enough, Hartmann&Forbes, is also introducing its first full line of Natural Wallcoverings. The Americana Collection features 46 designs made from sustainably cultivated and rapidly renewable materials such as ramie, sisal, abaca, jute and cork, and was inspired by American landscapes and landmarks.

Avenue:

The collection is made up of nine patterns, offering a range of natural textures in neutral color palettes. Highlighting the collection is the New York City-inspired Avenue Series, a first-of-its-kind design that features handwoven sisal fibers that are backed, meticulously trimmed into 3” strips, and then double handwoven into a striking basket weave. (Lexington, named for the famous Manhattan avenue, is pictured at top.)

Discover the entire line at Jeffrey Michaels Showroom at the DCOTA (Suite A-168), Culp Associates at the DCH (Suite 4018) and Hines & Company at the DDB (Suite 1010).

Carlucci di Chivasso goes glamorous

Since 1991, the boutique textile company Chivasso has been one of the favorites not only through Europe but globally, under the umbrella of JAB. The latest collection, Exposure, is a line that can be as understated or bold as you like, depending on how much you use and how you layer it in a room.

The names -- Pirate Treasure, Urban Tribe, Jungle Deluxe, as well as the new vinyl wallcoverings, Wonderwalls -- give a sense of their playful sensibility.

Pirate Treasure is an assortment of prints on neutral grounds in linen and velvet. Urban Tribe features faux furs and leathers, perfect for accessory elements. Jungle Deluxe is a range of serious patterns, ranging from damasks to architecturally derived elements.

The Wonderwalls patterns include woodblock, grasscloths and beaded texture elements.

In the News: Sunbrella Pitches in for Pretty in Pink 4 Life Promotion

From fabrics to philanthropy, Sunbrella is an all-star in our book. Sunbrella has teamed up with Irwin Feld Design/Mid Century Antiques for the sale of a spectacular mid-century upholstered ottoman, of which the proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The 1960’s iron ottoman has been freshly powder coated in fuchsia and reupholstered with Sunbrella Steeplechase Malibu in a petite pattern and accented with Canvas Hot Pink piping. With such color, we think this chair is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.

The Pretty in Pink 4 Life concept originated last September when Irwin Feld Design/Mid Century Antiques hosted a fall networking event in the gallery. With a gathering during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the firm decided to use the event to raise awareness as well as funds for Komen for the Cure. A fabulous mid-century modern chrome bench was polished and reupholstered in pink and offered for sale with all proceeds benefiting Komen for the Cure.  With the support of social media friends, Sunbrella made its way into the equation and a loving home was found for the bench.

The Pretty in Pink 4 Life sculptural ottoman is priced at $1,200 and can be found on the Irwin Feld Design website. You can find Sunbrella's Steeplechase Malibu fabric at the DDB in Sonia's Place, at the PDC in Summit Furniture and at the DCOTA in Jeffrey Michaels.

Introducing Our Newest Dinner Guest

When Lulu DK burst onto the scene over ten years ago, founder Lulu deKwiatkowski was heralded for bringing a spirit of youthfulness and vivacity to the traditional world of textiles. We're giving this same mission the credit for their most recent venture in the world in interior Design.

Lulu DK's premier line of china is so fresh and tantalizing, it's hard to decide whether you want to eat off of it, or hang it as art. Each plate, bowl, mug, and charger spotlights bold patterns and vibrant hues through the delicacy of Lulu’s hand-drawn designs. With this communion of elegance and style along with a fun, playful personality, they are the perfect choice for either everyday use or special occasions and entertaining.

All watercolored by Lulu’s hand, the striking patterns embody a whimsy that is the heart of her company’s signature style.  Reminiscent of the collages in deKwiatkowski’s autobiographical art book LULU and brimming from edge to edge with flora and fauna, the designs owe their inspiration largely to Lulu’s love of nature.

5-Hour Energy

We weren’t expecting to get such a jolt from Creation Baumann's new Energy collection. It’s a fabric whose textures and striking uniqueness is simultaneously fun and elegant.

Energy is a new laser cut product that assumes a three-dimensional quality through the ingenious placing of silts, which, when suspended, result in vibrating shapes. The papery material lends the voluminous fabric a light and sculpturesque appearance.

Their subtle designs gave off a detail that ranged from geometric and structured to whimsical and floating.

To see more check out their website. You can also stop their showroom in the DDB, or find them in PDC in the Thomas Lavin Showroom or in the DCOTA in the Jeffrey Michaels Showroom.
