Auntie Mame inspires EF + LM's latest collection

We love the latest collection from Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman. Inspired by Auntie Mame, the 3 Beekman collection takes its name from the apartment where the famous eccentric lived. The 1955 Patrick Dennis novel inspired the Broadway show and 1958 film, both of which starred Rosalind Russell.



The collection, designed by creative director Skip Rumley, feels decidedly "uncollection" -- like it was assembled over time by a terrific, stylish and well-traveled aunt. And it answers the "where do I get that?" shopping question for those of us who don't have one! This console is suitable for outdoors too, and provides an ample surface for a hallway or nook, without feeling heavy.



This mirror is cast, with no welding, so it's entirely seamless. It makes a great statement piece, not to mention it serves as a piece of functional sculpture.



Rumley also selected and arranged the beautiful flowers that filled the showroom. This elegant, and simple, arrangement sits on top of the equally chic dining table in the collection, a double-pedestal base with a high-gloss mahogany top.

Event Recap: Edward Ferrell Talks Fabric 101 at Student Design Day

Edward Ferrell knows fabric, so it was only appropriate that the DDB's Student Design Day schedule included a Fabric 101 lecture with Steven Mittman, owner of Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman (EFLM). With tens of thousands of different fabrics and a similar number of upholstery styles available, Steven discussed the infinite possibilities in the marriage of the two.

"With nearly unlimited options to work with in both fabric and upholstery, attention to detail for every single order of them is almost a guaranteed challenge for you," said Steven. "Because of the overwhelming number of options you will always have, a new challenge is perpetually posed to the workroom and you, the designer. How do we narrow things down?

"Important tips that will always help you with these choices are understanding your fabric-to-frame applications and knowing how the two interact and invigorate each other. When you're fully able to narrow your product down and freely explore the wishes of your clients, the only other necessity is to avoid the mistakes that can come with such design that prove to be quite costly."

Steven shared his tips on honing essential design skills and stressed that the most important thing a designer can do is to offer his or her client the best upholstery experience possible.
