Event Recap: Outdoor Chic's Savvy Suggestions (Part 2)

You may recall our recap earlier this week about Outdoor Chic: From the Terrace to the Great Outdoors at DCOTA which highlighted the panel discussion and environment created by Joe Fava in Atrium B at DCOTA.

"I'm a hugely avid gardener and I certainly didn't think I'd be learning anything in the gardening enhancement part of the discussion," said an audience member. "Sure enough, Joe and Ashley Longshore really identified some beautiful ways to enhance my gardening space by rearranging certain plants and really understanding the sunlight that my yard gets. I hope there isn't another fabulous event here soon because I'll be in my garden!"

In addition to a mock swimming pool, Joe’s outdoor escape also featured Batonia hammocks, made in Belgium by Inside Out, an open seating area from the Meridian cubic collection by Brown Jordan, and outdoor artwork by artist Ashley Longshore. Lara Shelton from La Plates presented a personalized, cheerful atmosphere to this backyard with colorful custom plates. IStyle owner Jenny Wilensky Zalkin partnered up with Betty from Betty’s Models to show the latest fashion trend from Saks Fifth Avenue to complete this summer pool party.

Event Recap: Savvy Suggestions for Outdoor Chic (Part 1 of 2)

Designer Joe Fava transformed Atrium B at DCOTA into an outdoor vignette for International Design@DCOTA featuring a mock swimming pool from Liquid Art Custom Pools, surrounded by beautiful tiles from Walker Zanger. The landscaping by Ed Grau of Grau Landscaping & Design displayed the best in plant foliage and lush Bermuda grass.

DCOTA Marketing Director Josh Fein moderated a discussion, Outdoor Chic: From the Terrace to the Great Outdoors, with panelists Joe Fava from Fava Design Group, artist Ashley Longshore, Omar Guzman of Liquid Art Custom Pools and Ed Grau from Grau Landscaping.

"The group discussed how to really live it up with a pool party by using simple, age-appropriate décor," said one audience member. "I have children but my husband and I love to host parties with our friends and without the kids, so I really took away some great tips. I can't wait for our next party!"

Improving the outdoor space in functional and fun ways suited all audience members’ styles. The panel advised everything from the scents of certain flowers and plants to the essentials in poolside luxuries.
