New York-based interior designer Harry Daniell of Harry Daniell Design sat down with us to share his experience in the industry and love for interior design. Today, he tells us more about himself and his design blog.
GDG: What made you start your blog?
HD: For a few years now, people had been telling me that they would read a blog if I had one, an idea which I wholly rejected for over a year. Cut to having dinner with a friend who is a well-known Broadway producer. After one conversation with him, my thoughts on a blog shifted on a dime. I started it shortly thereafter!

GDG: What kind of advice did you receive that convinced you to create your blog?
HD: In essence, he gave me an example of the power of his blog and how influential it is. The next day I was in the soon-to-be defunct Barnes and Nobles reading about return on investment, marketing and the "how-to’s" of launching a blog site. As I interviewed editors and marketing directors within the design community and explored other blogs, I grew AMAZINGLY fascinated with the thought that I too was going to launch a blog site.
GDG: Does your blog have one all-encompassing guideline?
HD: My blog is about "all things design," rather than anything about me. My intense and sudden interest in blogging coupled with the fact that I believe there is a great disconnect within the design community made my blog's goal simple: I want my blog to help narrow that gap.
A perfect example of the priorities of my blog happened recently. I just met a designer from upstate and we are going to be featuring her on my blog site. She asked me to give her a topic and I told her, point blank, "NO, that is why I am asking you to guest blog! I want to hear what YOU have to say about anything design."
