Harry Daniell of Harry Daniell Design is a New York-based interior designer and blogger that sets the bar high. Harry's blog covers all things design-related and since we've learned all about his blog in previous posts, we're dying to know more about his own personal design style. Harry indulged us and told us about what he loves.
GDG: What are a few fundamental elements of your design style?
HD: Simply put, I [have] to listen to my client. If my client wants modern, we think modern; if they want French provincial, we think French provincial. At the end of the day, my style MUST be reflective of the client, whether residential or commercial.
Part of what I love as a designer is when I get to style my client's residence at the end of the project, styling storefront windows and sets... so true to form, I bring that love into my own space so each space tells a story of me.

GDG: So what are a few fundamental elements of your own personal design style?
HD: In designing my own space, I tend towards an eclectic yet serene style. The eclecticism is mostly due to the accent pieces I've picked up while traveling the globe. During the years, I somehow started to collect antique lanterns, so they are found in different rooms and I also love having candles lit around me and throughout the space.
I also love water, having been raised going to the beach and being a Pisces, so anything water related is right up my alley. That said, I surround myself with fish bowls!
GDG: What have you been busy with lately?
HD: Aside from my interior projects, I am in the process of launching a tabletop collection! Having been linked with Michael C. Fina several years back, it seemed like a logical direction AND I love the thought that my tabletop can be amongst a family or friend dinner party where memories are being made!
GDG: Can you tell us about your participation in the DDB's DesignPro Council?
HD: I think that DesignPro is a great resource for people who want to work with a designer but just don't have the contact with a designer. I'm extremely grateful to be a part of it and honored, given the level of talent within the group that my portfolio is on hand for end users to review.
GDG: Can you share some fun facts about yourself?
HD: In my two weekend houses, I intentionally painted one all white and the other all in color. The point is, at one house I am the object of color; at the other house I am the object of whiteness. It is a play on the concept of color!
I also have a warm water and cold water tank; I leave the water slightly low so I constantly hear the drip of the water dropping from the filter back to the tank—it's such a serene sound for me to hear.
Harry is one of GoDesignGo's newest guest bloggers, so stay tuned for his upcoming contributions.
I like the ideal of intermingling your lantern collection into your rooms. I do that with antique tube radios!
ReplyDeleteI like that you intermingle your lantern collection into room designs. I do that with antique tube radios! I know, perhaps that's a little less stylish, but to each his own. I'll keep my day job ...
