The Design Professionals of the DCOTA, PDC, DCH and DDB know the inside scoop on design at the four Cohen Design Centers around the country. They provide a unique Consulting and Buying Program for those of us who aren't currently working with a designer, extending the coveted privilege to select from the textiles and furnishings available through the Cohen Design Centers.
Last week we introduced Alex Matamoros, Director of Design Services for the DCOTA. Here's what Alex had to say when we talked with him about his love affair with design.
GDG: What do you love most about design?
AM: I love to turn spaces from blah to Fab!
GDG: What made you love the design industry?
AM: I love this industry because it's always changing, from new products and new materials to new techniques and more. The more hands-on experience I had, the more fine-tuned my skills and love for design grew.
GDG: Do you have a personal design philosophy?
AM: I actually just go by finding out what the clients’ wants and needs are and then I take them to a higher level.
GDG: Who are some of your style icons?
AM: I have several! Charles and Ray Eames, Le Cobusier, Emile-Jacques Rhulman, Ralph Pucci, Vladimir Kagan—to name a few!
GDG: Are there any emerging trends in design or architecture that are influencing you now?
AM: I love the eclecticism that has been emerging—I love the use of modern materials against natural elements.
GDG: What are three adjectives you would use to describe yourself as a designer?
AM: I'm stylish, creative and innovative!
GDG: Are there any items that you couldn't live or design without?
AM: Yes! My iPhone, my Mac and my car.
