Fall Market Buzz: DDB Announces 2011 Stars of Design & Notable Guest List

The Decoration and Design Building (DDB) will soon be the scene for the fifth annual Stars of Design awards, culminating the first day of the highly anticipated DDB Fall Market. In honor of the occasion, Charles S. Cohen, owner of the DDB, will host 100 of the design industry’s elite for an intimate black tie dinner and ceremony celebrating the 2011 honorees.


Established over a decade ago in Los Angeles at Pacific Design Center, the Stars of Design has become a coveted award for the industry elite. Representing a cross-section of the creative world, each chosen recipient is highly regarded for their significant achievements and contributions to their respective discipline of design.


This year’s recipients have been selected by a panel comprised of industry leaders who are experts in the fields of art, home furnishings, architecture and design. This distinguished panel of judges and jury include past year’s recipients: Michele Oka Doner, Peter Marino, Lee Mindel, Ivan Chermayeff, Scott Frances, David Easton, Massimo Vignelli and Ellie Cullman.




The DDB's 2011 Stars of Design included Albert Hadley for Lifetime Achievement; Diller Scofidio + Renfro for Architecture; Jean Michel Othoniel for Art; Paula Scher, Pentagram for Graphic Design; Tucker Viemeister, Rockwell Group for Industrial/Product Design; Matthew Patrick Smyth for Interior Design; James CornerField Operations for Landscape Design + Architecture; and Jason Schmidt for Photography.



Editors attending include Michael Boodro, Editor in Chief of Elle Décor; Dara Caponigro, Editor in Chief of Veranda; Jay Fielden Named, Editor in Chief of Town & Country; Deborah Needleman, Editor In Chief of Wall Street Journal; and Margaret Russell, Editor In Chief of Architectural Digest.


Designers and architects attending include Mario Buatta, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Nina Campbell, Ivan Chermayeff, Jamie Drake, Thom Filicia, Alexander Gorlin, Amy Lau, Katie Lydon, Peter Marino, Juan Pablo Molyneux, Amanda Nisbet, Karim Rashid, Scott Salvator, Bunny Williams and Vicente Wolf.


Other guests include artist Michele Oka Doner, Wendy Goodman and Sheila Metzner.
