Meet the Designer: Donghia's Chuck Chewning Shares the Scoop (Summer Series)

Last week we introduced you to Chuck Chewning, Donghia's creative director, and one of the creative minds behind Donghia's showroom expansion at the DDB this fall. We got to learn a bit about Chuck and how he got to where he is.

Chuck received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in both Historic Preservation of Architecture and in Interior Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he earned the first SCAD Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2008.

"My time at SCAD was ultimately an exceptional experience," said Mr. Chewning. "I attended SCAD during its infancy and there was great attention placed on design and history. The school was small and everyone was personally encouraged to accel."

Before joining Donghia, Chuck also founded the design firm CCID, Inc. along with Jan Clausen, where he focused on national and global luxury residential and hospitality markets. Previously, he worked as a Senior Design Associate at Hirsch Bedner Associates, collaborating in their Atlanta, London and Milan offices for more than 16 years.

"I have several dream projects, but one perhaps one of the ultimate projects is the project I am currently working on," Mr. Chewning said. "I'm working on the restoration of the Gritti Palace in Venice Italy for Starwood Luxury collection. We are restoring the hotel palazzo while using historic textiles from Rubelli’s archives and designing all the furniture with Donghia, based on Venetian antiques. It will include many signature specialty luxury Suites!"

Stay tuned to GoDesignGo for our Q&A with Chuck to learn who Chuck's mentor is and some personal facts about his own design style.
