Q&A with “Young Traditional” Jamie Herzlinger

Jamie Herzlinger of Jamie Herzlinger Interiors has one aspiration: to be the Martha Stewart of the Interior Design world. Jamie is one of tradhome's 20 Young Traditional Designers to watch. We got to spend some time with her last week and learn a few things about her—including her room at the Kips Bay Decorators’ Show House.

GDG: What are you looking forward to this Spring?
JH: I am thrilled for Spring as I see the market coming back. I feel that everyone is ready for a Spring fix, whether it is a new room or a new home. I see fabulous color, both rich and elegant. I am thrilled to kiss goodbye the pseudo-Hollywood glam, too. I have had enough of it!

GDG: What should we keep our eyes open for this Spring?
JH: The hottest trend I feel is this very downtown look meets Upper East Side. The outcome is this chic, hip, conversant design with traditional vestiges but with a twist. Everyone should think "downtown" for design inspiration. It's the difference between getting dressed to have dinner at da Silvano versus Daniel. I also think that crystal is getting bigger and mixing crystal with traditional design is fabulous.

GDG: Is there anything that you can't wait for this season?
JH: On my personal radar, I am doing the “his” master bath at the Kips Bay Decorators’ Show House and I'm very excited! I am also doing the Décor by the Shore Show house in New Jersey, which should be amazing.

GDG: What collections or designers are you really looking forward to seeing?
JH: I would have to say for fabrics, Bergamo, Donghia and Holly Hunt. Lorin Marsh is one of my all time favorites for the hippest furniture, and Moura Starr is a new favorite!

GDG: Can you share any fun examples of going stir crazy this Winter?
JH: Absolutely! Me standing in Bergdorf [Goodman] at the makeup counters trying on bronzer because of how pale I've been!
