July 26: DCOTA presents "Outdoors"

We've already told you about events on July 12 & 19. Here's what to expect.

Artist/journalist/photojournalist Cesar Barroso presents large-format photographs of botanicals in black & white and color as well as visions of the architecture of downtown Miami. He just ended a two-month exhibit at the Coral Springs Museum of Art.

A new link for the great outdoors

Now that it's the season we all relish being outdoors as much as possible, isn't it time to update the furniture? The Echo Collection, designed by Douglas Levine for Link Outdoor, is striking in its simplicity yet elegant in form. Made of teak and stainless steel, the designs range from architectural to sinuous, equally emphasizing form and comfort.



Douglas Levine worked as Director of Design for Holly Hunt, Ltd. in the 90's, collaborating on the debut of the Studio Collection & Great Plains Textiles. Levine created his own company, L Corp. in 1998, and has contracted with Bright Chair Co. in New York and Manheim Ruseau in Dallas to re-image and reposition their product lines.



His work straddles both the hospitality and the residential markets, and he presents new lines annually at NeoCon, which is kicking off this weekend in Chicago. Levine also designs a select number of residential interiors, working with clients who seek his clean eye.



The collection, deceptively simple, yet sophisticated and modern, is also ideal for a variety of geographic settings.



It's now on view at Thomas Lavin at the PDC, Hines & Co. at the DDB, Jeffrey Michaels at the DCOTA and George Cameron Nash at the DCH.

Product Pick: Vervain's La Boheme is Ou-La-La

Named for the opera La Boheme, which tells the story of two young Bohemians living in the Latin quarters of Paris, Vervain's newest fabric gets us thinking "ou-la-la." La Boheme is a free-spirited, exotic embroidery that we wouldn't mind having adorn our space—and couldn't we all use a little more boheme in our lives?

“La Boheme was inspired from a Central Asian Suzani,” said Nina Butkin, vice president of design for Vervain. “We simplified the original motif and placed it in a modern layout.”

The pattern is a modern adaptation of suzani patterning and features harmonious color combinations, including Lemon Meringue, Fiesta, Flamingo, Mosaic Blue and Purple Heather.

“Its color palette is inspired by the pleasing play of warm yellows, greys and taupes against cool greys and cooler yellows,” Nina said. “It adds an interesting palette to modern-traditional interiors.”

Jeffrey Michaels Showroom Shines in the Face of Adversity

The showroom was formed the year after Hurricane Andrew blew through Florida in 1992 by dynamic duo, Diana and Michael Feibelman.

Jeffrey Michaels was first as an intimate 1,900 square feet showroom with a handful of wallcovering and fabric lines.

They moved to a 5,500 square feet showroom in order to accommodate their rapidly growing collection, which now included Fabricut, S. Harris, Vervain and Stroheim, Hartmann & Forbes.

Yet again, they are expanding to a renovated space, now 7,700 square feet, which will have a grand re-opening party on December 8 to celebrate their wonderful world of design.
