Jane Churchill channels illustrations and Scandinavia for newest fabrics

On Monday, we offered a taste of what's coming from Colefax & Fowler this season to Cowtan & Tout showrooms. Here are some highlights of the walk-through with designer Sarah MacGregor of the new collection.

"Jane Churchill is always known for being playful and this season that includes 1) the illustrative and 2) more Scandinavian references.
Silverly is a design that was first printed using handmade lino blocks. Brightwood, a cotton-linen blend, is an adorable country scene seen here on the shade.


Here's Willowbrook, available as both a cotton-linen blend fabric as well as a wallpaper:


Jane is known for her love of aquas and this year it's complemented with a fresh range of pinks. The curtains are in linen-blend Hayden.


"Vintage Daisy was inspired by a textile document we actually bought on a trip to New York."


Thinking back to those practical weaves that we seem to snap us here in the US, there are 28 colors of polyester-blend weaves and 11 colors of a windowpane woven, which are certain to be hits with their durability and good price points.


Two new chenilles: embossed Kirkley and the slightly gauffraged Samford.
Lisson is a lovely Italian cotton with a slightly vintage finish that we know will be snapped up for upholstery, and in such a lovely palette, seen here on the red pillow at the bottom of the stack:


Craving something more neutral? Leafield is pictured on the chair at left, and Tellina on the right:

Don't miss the cotton check and stripe book, which feels quintessentially English. There are pinstripes and ginghams in nine colors, including two sizes of checks, some of which are seen in these adorable stack of pillows. Don't you just want them all?




And the candy-like decorative velvets, like Medley Spot that channels Paul Smith, and Honeycomb with a nod to David Hicks' favorite shape. We bet you can pick them out of this stack:


The chair is upholstered in a vibrant Furrow Stripe, which is available in six colors and a fun way to add movement to a traditionally boxy chair shape:

Janus et Cie goes modular with Boxwood

Boxwood, the latest addition to the JANUSfiber collection from Janus et Cie. Part of the proprietary JANUSfiber line, it's made of "Generation Next" weather-resistant fiber, which provides high-performance wear we need of our outdoor furniture, As Janice Feldman, President of Janus et Cie says of the Boxwood design, "It has a beautiful open weave that really shows off the craftsmanship of the product. We love the mix of the see-through weave with the crisp lines and rigorous structure of the furniture. It’s a look that allows Boxwood to blend into a contemporary commercial landscape or traditional garden setting. The shape is modern, but not severe because the weave lightens and warms the design."



Boxwood is available in two depths, with Left, Right and Center modules for the sofa, in addition to nine other designs including two tables, three chairs, and three sofa sizes. All are finished in a proprietary Mica JANUSfiber handwoven over an electrostatic powder-coated aluminum frame with a bronze finish. It's a mouthful, but it promises this is a design that will stand the test of time! Remember the company's been at it for nearly 35 years.



Stop by and see Boxwood at the DCH (Suite 155), DCOTA (Suite A123), and PDC (Suite B146/193). It's another way to make us even more jealous that much of the USA gets to enjoy living outdoors throughout the Fall and Winter!

Van Morrison at Donghia!

That's one way to get your attention! And it's not really a lie...Donghia's Fall collection is called Moondance, a reference to the singer's song. In fact the entire new collection, 16 designs in all, references Van Morrison's songs and even his birthplace (Belfast, a voided velvet design inspired by mensware pictured above, available in five colors). Chuck Chewning, creative director of Donghia, was kind enough to show us the new collection, which will be in the showrooms any day now.

Gloria:

The color palette of Gloria references back to Donghia's Spring/Summer collection (thankfully we don't have to overhaul our pastel color scheme just yet!). The inspiration for the design came from a painting on wax paper. The warp print with an ikat effect casts an ethereal mood, as drapery or decorative touches.

Moondance:

Our personal favorite, Moondance, has a woven almost-ikat pattern in a polyester-silk that evokes the glowing moon at night. Can't you just hear the song playing in the background? It comes in eight colorways, and wouldn't it make a terrific wallcovering?

Natalia:

The graphic Natalia, a voided velvet, was inspired by tie in the Donghia archives - our guess is classic 70s! It comes in three colorways.

Wild Night:

Think tweed is too stuffy? Channel the vibe with one of these five colors. Woven wool is washed to removed some of the metallic foil finish of Wild Night, leaving a large scale plaid design that we'd love to use on a sofa.

Sahco's wild side

New for Fall, Sahco presents a collection called Urban Safari. Featuring faux furs, velvets and other alluring textures, the 12 fabrics come in a palette inspired by nature and the materials they capture. It's the ethical way to add a dash of fox, leopard, lynx, ostrich and Persian lamp to an interior.

Nandu, pictured above is available in five colors. A three-dimensional surface and gloss accents captures the look of ostrich leather, with its easy-care, durable properties making it ideal for tight upholstery. It can also be made flame-retardant for commercial applications.

Persian:

Persian, available in four colors, starts out woven as a plain velvet in viscose. It's then piece-dyed and hot embossed to look like Persian lamb.

Grizzly:

It's hard to believe Grizzly, virtually indistinguishable from real fur, is actually a woven. Only available in this one colorway, it offers a variety of tones to complement a range of palettes. Grizzly will also be available for purchase as throw. (It's at the top of our wish list!)

Zambia:

The jacquard velvet Zambia, available in four colors, has a Sahara-meets-ikat effect. A viscose "web" contrasts with the light base and makes a statement on upholstery.

Meet the Novogratz tomorrow at CB2

Tomorrow from 6-8pm, on your way out of the DDB, escape the summer heat and stop into CB2. Bob and Cortney Novogratz, the husband-and-wife design duo behind Sixx Design and stars of Nine By Design (along with their brood of kids)and HGTV's Home by Novogratz, will be on hand to kick-off their collaboration with the playful and affordable retailer.

Drawing inspiration from global influences and combining popular design trends with dynamic color schemes, Fabricut introduces its latest print collection – Floral Expressions.

Discover Jan Showers' collection

We love Jan Showers! The Dallas-based decorator has a way with designing classically elegant and glamorous products ranging from furniture to lighting. She has a retail and trade showroom in Dallas, but her own designs are also sold as the Jan Showers Collection, available through showrooms across the country.

In addition to her work as a prominent interior decorator, she's also the author of Glamorous Rooms.



An avid traveler, Showers also regularly publishes a blog called Jan's Notebook, which shares some of her favorite finds from her travels, new additions to her product collection, inspiration about town and even family snapshots. Hinson reemerges with new fabrics

Hinson's back in the textile arena with a long-awaited collection of silks and ikats, available exclusively through Donghia showrooms.


Vienna (pictured above) is a textured silk woven in India with viscose, which lends strength. The understated slubby texture lends a slightly more casual effect. Available in more than ten colors.


Diffusion Taffeta is woven in India of 100% silk. It has a prominent strie which is most pronounced in the deeper colorways. Available in 24 colors, it is ideal for draperies and, when backed, can be used as upholstery:



Harding Ikat is a modern interpretation of the classic pattern, done without the traditional feathery edges that define ikats. In Harding, they are like electric waves. The cotton-rayon blend is perfect for upholstery and curtain and is available in six colors:



Pavillion silk stripe epitomizes elegance and a classic color palette with alternating width stripes:

New collection: Stroheim UV Pro

Stroheim's latest indoor-outdoor collection, UV Pro, comes with a five-year guarantee against fading. Even if you're not planning a pool party, the mildew- and stain-resistant fabrics will impress. They're ideal for high-traffic indoor areas, like play rooms and kitchen banquettes. Available in 125 design and colors variations, the fabrics are made of solution-dyed acrylic and have a soft hand. Seasonal spotlight: Bielecky Brothers furniture

Something about sunny skies and spring break makes us covet summertime furniture. The family-run Bielecky Brothers still makes wicker furniture by hand--the last surviving company to do so--as their great-grandfather did starting in 1903. Their wicker, cane and rattan furniture has had a cult following since, notably trumpeted by Angelo Donghia in the 1980s.


We asked for a refresher in what distinguishes the three materials. Here's the Bielecky's summary of what we should probably remember from Earth Science class.



Wicker: This isn't a material, but a process of weaving reed (willow or seagrass, although Bielecky only uses reed) taken from a solid section of the vine. Since it comes from the core of the plant, it's naturally porous and therefore accepts stain easily.






Rattan: A vine native to the Southeast Pacific. Its solid core is strong enough to be used as a table and chair frame. When steamed, it can be bent to form graceful shapes. When sanded it becomes porous and can accept stains and paints.






Cane: The outside of the rattan plant; it can be used to wrap hardwood or rattan frames, or woven for seats or surface texture. It is non-porous and will retain its mottled surface.

New collection: Suzanne Tucker Home

San Francisco-based interior designer Suzanne Tucker, principal of Tucker & Marks, focused her peripatetic vision on Africa when designing Caravan, her latest Suzanne Tucker Home fabric collection. Eight new designs, ranging from cut velvet to silk jacquard and hand-woven ikat, pay homage to the vast continent and its visual splendors: desert, animals, and jungle. Cotton velvets Duma, a cheetah-inspired pattern, and Nomad, a geometric cut and loop pile, are made in the U.S., while the other fabrics come from Europe, India, Asia. Available at Holland & Sherry at the DDB and Thomas Lavin at the PDC.

New at John Rosselli

John Rosselli has welcomed the Elizabeth Hamilton collection to its showroom, adding to its rich roster of boutique fabric lines. Hamilton worked alongside Peter Fasano for over 30 years before branching out on her own. She works out of her Great Barrington, MA studio to silkscreen by hand on linen, hemp, cotton and silk. Her traditional prints, mostly inspired by natural elements, are tempered by stripes and solids, and all are made using water-soluble pigments in an environmentally friendly studio. New "Innovations"

Rudy Mayer, founder of the wallcovering company Innovations, always had high expectations of surprising and exciting the design community with his products. He started the business in 1975 and the fresh ideas keep coming. Here are some of the latest Innovations.

Pretty pillows from de le Cuona

World traveler Bernie de Le Cuona started her eponymous linen company in her kitchen in 1992. She now has showrooms in London, Russia and on the 9th floor of the DDB. She's expanded into a range of alpaca wools and has launched a collection of pillows with beautiful detailing, including intricate metal work, always remaining true to the serene, very livable palette for which she is known.

Product Spotlight: Mark Singer's Canopy Collection for Giati

Mark Singer, the founder, award-winning furniture designer, and visionary behind Giati, has created a vibrant new textile collection for the company. The Canopy collection was inspired by Mark’s lifetime passion of working with wood and making extraordinary furniture from it. The organic patterns and designs of the Canopy collection emanate from the outlines of treetops and the unique markings created from wood grains and bamboo.
The Canopy collection contains 19SKUS and four patterns: Kapur Canopy, the treetop motif; Bengal Bamboo, the stripe; Mangrove Forest, the grid pattern; and a solid plush, Forest Fog, which coordinates with the five color groups.
All textiles are composed of 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic and are guaranteed for five years against fading, splitting, peeling, or cracking. These striking textiles are also water- and mildew-resistant, and are sun-fast as well. The collection is the ultimate choice for both residential and commercial applications.
Giati will donate a portion of the sales proceeds from this collection to Amazon Watch, an organization dedicated the preservation of the rainforests. You can find the Canopy collection at the Giati showroom at the PDC, Walter's Wicker at the DDB, or at Inside Out at DCOTA.

Product Pick: Nobilis' Wild Mink Fur-nomenon

When we recently popped into Nobilis, we came for the fabrics, but we stayed for the fur—faux fur, that is. We were lucky to even get the chance to see them, because they have been such hot items that not even the sales associates could get their hands on them.

Nobilis' wild faux 'fur-nomenon' throws seem to be the latest and greatest product invention. At the DDB showroom, throws have been flying off the shelves—and well they should, at a price point of $400 retail, $200 net. These 60 x 80 throws are the perfect companion for a chilly day. Luckily, Nobilis has just been restocked with the throws, as the company depleted the American stock of them in December.

The sheered mink is the most popular of the bunch, but with three options and several colorways, the choices are yours for the picking.

Louis S. Corello, senior sales associate for Nobilis, had one of these luxurious blankets on his Christmas list, but because they were so hot, he couldn't even get his hands on them until recently.
