Shop Talk: J. Pocker’s Custom Notice Board for The Editor at Large Office

When we recently learned about J. Pocker's custom notice boards, we had to ask Robyn Pocker, President of J. Pocker, if there were any recent projects that she could share with us.

"When Julia Noran of The Editor at Large stopped in to ask about a bulletin board for their new offices, we were delighted and full of suggestions!" said Robyn. "It had to be really large and very functional, so we explained all of the options, which included covered linen, pretty fabric with decorative ribbon trim, among many others. The best solution for her turned out to be a traditional cork and a fun frame!"

"Think how useful one of these might be for your space," Robyn added. "We use them in the store to announce events, and in my office to keep track of everything—inspirational images, a photograph of me with Prince Charles, photographs of my grandchildren, spring-time events, and more! Photographs on my phone are handy but a photograph in front of me every day works wonders to make me smile every morning!"

We also got the chance to chat with The Editor at Large’s President Julia Noran about the J. Pocker addition in her new office and her experience working with Robyn.

"After working with Robyn Pocker on my notice board, I wondered why I had ever gone anywhere but J. Pocker for my framing needs!" said Julia. "She made the experience so easy and fast, and she was incredibly pleasant and professional throughout the process. After giving her a one-sentence description of my space, she quickly pulled two frame options—one of which I had secretly selected prior to our meeting. Mind reading is not a bad skill to have in this business! She asked a few questions, jotted a few notes, and sent me on my way. A few days later, a nice gentleman showed up with my neatly packed board, which he unveiled to be one of the most stylish notice boards I’ve seen!"

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Our newest love is a silver leaf with black clay with Dutch waffle influences," Rebecca told us. “Robyn found this beautiful antique frame [shown below] in London this past September. She brought it home to have it interpreted by our own craftsmen. We are always on the lookout for the unique design in frame styles, something totally ‘Pocker.’"

New Faces: The Frame Master

Since her arrival to the DDB six months ago, the amicable and charming Rebecca Vicars has infused J. Pocker with a newfound artistic verve.

"I'm working on getting more fresh energy in here while being mindful of the classic, traditional name that I personally love about J. Pocker," said Rebecca, the store’s Showroom Manager. "I've changed all the artwork since I've been here and tried to really charge it up."

Rebecca has a master’s degree in painting and worked as a framer for years while she completed her undergraduate studies. She has also taught University-level classes in color theory, painting, and drawing.
