The DDB's Fall Market is days away and from the exciting unveiling of the new Donghia showroom kicking off the week's events, so we decided we would go straight to the source. Yesterday, we talked with Chuck Chewning, Donghia's creative director and one of the creative minds behind Donghia's showroom expansion, to learn more about the newest additions to the space. Here's more from Chuck about his take on design today and Donghia's soon-to-be seen DDB showroom.
GDG: What colors and patterns do you think are under used in design lately?
CC: I think saturated colors are substantially under used. They are stunning when used in a monochromatic setting where most everything else in the room is the same palette. I also love plaids and think they are never used enough; they complement all types of patterns because of their architectural geometric structure.
GDG: What colors do you think people should pay more attention to in the Fall season?
CC: Reds and oranges because they are always inviting in design and people look good in them too!
GDG: What were a few of the must-haves in Donghia's new showroom?
CC: The Manhattan and Bristol sectional sofas along with the new Infinity and Origami tables—to name a few.
GDG: Where there any challenges in developing the plan?
CC: The main challenge was creating a segregated layout that separated Lifestyle from Textiles but still retained a logical flow and obvious axis and sight line.
GDG: What do you think Angelo would have liked most about the plan?
CC: I think he would have most appreciated the emphasis on lifestyle room settings. They really reflect the design aesthetic of the brand he so stressed.
