David Phoenix Talks About California Elegance

For over 15 years, David Phoenix has been creating elegant California interiors. By way of New England, he brings a relaxed comfortable elegance to his clients, many of whom are part of the industry in LA. His work spans from Brentwood, Montecito, to Pacific Palisades and beyond. What do you like best about working in California? I like the laid back California lifestyle, indoor/outdoor.

How have people’s lifestyles and their casual or formal emphasis changed over the past 5 years? Everyone wants easy, less fuss, but it really depends on the person, on what your definition of casual or formal is. In southern california people are always entertaining casually...the majority of people want a casual and comfortable style.

What are your favorite showrooms to shop in the PDC? David Sutherland, Kneedler-Fauchere, Holly Hunt, Thomas Lavin, Paul Ferrante.

What does every room need to be comfortable? Quality and comfort--comfortable seating and good lighting. Everyone should have the best quality they can afford.

What is your favorite color combination at the moment? Earth tones. Greens, golds and browns.
