A Gracie artist will be in the newley opened showroom to demonstrate the technique of handpainting Chinese wallpaper.  Gracie’s artists hand make and hand paint Chinese wallpapers in the same manner as those produced in the 18th century.  Visitors will be given a piece of original artwork as a keepsake. Coffee and pastry will be served.

His Barry Dixon Collection for Vervain is “a worldly pastiche of my favorite design styles and influences spanning cultures and periods – edited, colored and juxtaposed into a seamlessly modern, hospitable reality.” Join Barry and Vervain for a look into the inspiration and aesthetic harmony behind his fabrics and trimmings in the inaugural Barry Dixon Collection for Vervain and signing of his new book, Barry Dixon Interiors. Exhibition 1935 – 1955: inspiration & realism of fabrics.

Explore the bold and fascinating era in art and textile design from 1935 to 1955 through the archives exhibit of Pierre Frey.  This was a period influenced by two main artistic styles:  Neo-Medievalsim and Surrealism.  Noted author, textile historian, and Pierre Frey’s archivist Sophie Rouart will discuss this period of poetry and imagination as presented through the display of nearly 50 documents and drawings. Refreshments will be served.  After market, the exhibition will remain in New York through July 30, 2010.

Defining the New Luxury: How to Sustain a Luxury Market in the New Post-Recession World

Alan M. Siegel, partner in the law firm of Levy Sonet & Siegel, LLP and serves as national legal counsel to the American Society of Interior Designers, Inc., will moderate a panel of design manufacturers about the trends in a new luxury market.  With a new sense of optimism, clients are wetting their toes in pools of silk and splashing about in custom sectionals and extension tables.  But the cautious behavior of the past decade remains. There seems to be a greater appreciation of permanence - of choosing products for the home that do not merely speak of the client's wealth, but of products that speak of timelessness and quality.  The panel includes: furniture manufacturer, Maxine Snider, custom rug manufacturer, Vera Za’arour, and, textile manufacturer, Katerina Tana.

Stark Fabric is pleased to welcome Marie-Catherine de Masin of Lelievre, Paris. She will lead you on a rare archival exploration of original textiles from the looms of Tassinari & Chatel, the oldest and most prestigious silk mill in Lyon. These silk masterpieces date back to 1680 and include textiles used in installations as diverse as the Palace of Versailles, the White House and historic houses and museums worldwide.
