Carrier and Company Tells Us What They Love Now

Modern and traditional, Carrier and Company designs interiors with comfort and today's lifestyles in mind. This husband and wife duo, of Mara Miller and Jesse Carrier channel rustic chic and city sleek with aplomb. As members of our Design Council, they share their stylish ways with us.

How would you describe your style?

We utilize a modern sensibility coupled with a love of tradition. To achieve that balance, we combine patina and age, with clean, tailored lines. Careful use of scale, color, and restraint creates interiors that are chic and subtle – and easy to live in.

What got you interested in interior design?

We both began our college careers studying fine arts and art history, then transferred to FIT  - where we met - to pursue interior  design. We drawn to vernacular architecture and old things, and then learned how it could also be personally and socially expressive – melding our more abstract art education with the concrete training of design.

What are your favorite showrooms to shop?

There is so much beautiful merchandise in the D&D that we utilize, but some of our favorites are John Rosselli, Holland and Sherry, and Quadrille for their selections of hand printed, small design house representation.  Knoll Luxe is a new and exciting showroom, which is pursuing specially designed collections from fashion greats while making the breadth of classic Knoll Textiles available under one roof for residential designers.

What does every room need to be comfortable?

Seating spaced for conversation makes every style comfortable and inviting.

What trends are you seeing now?

There seems to be a lot of innovation in textiles and wall-coverings, which, in turn, is inspiring  designers to be even more creative with the materials.

What is your favorite color combination at the moment?

We’re currently working on a few projects in Florida and enjoying sun-drenched corals with all shades of blue.
