Artist Jeremy Everett's "Untitled" (Love Seat #1) was all the buzz earlier this month in West Hollywood, as the Pacific Design Center showcased Everett's work in Comfortably Numb.
Curated by Helen Varola, Untitled (Love Seat #1) provides an excellent starting point for jumping into our exploration of the blurred boundaries between art and design. See a couch that’s both clearly recognizable as an original object and irreparably destroyed in its present state. Here love is depicted as a fractured mess and the piece’s brutal presentation points the viewer towards something akin to death. It was once a perfectly formed love seat, but now it’s nothing but a broken, muted object left to linger. Everett takes a machete to wholesome design in order to create forward-thinking art.
The exhibition ran from November 4-12 at the PDC in West Hollywood.
