Preview: Kit Kemp for Chelsea Editions

Last week, the Crosby Street Hotel was the (fitting venue) for the U.S. launch of Kit Kemp for Chelsea Editions. Kemp, the design director of Firmdale Hotels (of which Crosby Street Hotel is a part), created a whimsical and lyrical collection with plenty of animal references, both real and imaginary.

There's a star-gazing dog, a contemporary take on a Suzani and a sailor's farewell to mythical creatures.

The designer, known for her idiosyncratic approach to interiors, says, “I’ve always cherished embroidery, as an art form as well as a constant source of inspiration for the fabrics I use to decorate the rooms in my hotels. There is something timeless and precious about embroidery, it demands to be treasured, and in fact, one of my earliest memories is of rooting through drawers in large chests of stored materials that my mother had hoarded away. To sit on the floor surrounded by beautiful fabrics is where I always love to be.”

The collection, with its seven design themes, is hand-embroidered on either 100% linen or a linen-cotton blend.

Chelsea Editions specializes in bespoke, hand-embroidered textiles and is committed to preserving the traditions involved in producing handmade fabrics in the highest quality materials. There are also ready made cushions for those of us seeking an instant fix.
