In the News: Margaret Russell Discusses Reinvention and Staying Relevant (Part 1 of 2)

Fall Market at the Decoration and Design Building may be behind us, but if you missed the fabulous market events, we still have a few recaps to share. Market was packed as designers, editors and bloggers came to hear panel discussions and preview the latest collections from many of the showrooms. Transcending Boundaries in Design was the theme during the two-day market and was expounded on during the keynote lectures, covering ideas like reinvention, innovation, social media and the Internet and how these things are changing the landscape of the interior design industry.

Margaret Russell, editor in chief of Architectural Digest (AD), gave the first lecture of market, The Power of Reinvention. The discussion expounded on the importance of reinvention and staying relevant in an ever-changing industry.

Margaret showed the audience three different pictures that were combined to create one shot of an interior that highlights all the best features of the space like lighting and depth to more accurately portray what it looks like in real life. “But even with five people and a great digital camera, you still don’t always get the shot you want,” she said.

The audience perked up when she announced the return of AD’s June Country Houses and February Before and After issues, sharing slides that foreshadowed a makeover of the two issues. "I have gotten such feedback from our readers telling me how much they loved both issues and how much they would love to see their return. With some touching up, we'll bring both issues back in full style."

Check back tomorrow for more on the DDB's Fall Market keynote with Margaret Russell.
