Guest Blogger: Keith Lichtman on Rooms Without a View

Guest Blogger and New York-based interior designer Keith Lichtman of KL Interiors knows what it's like to turn a room's design into a beautiful view, but he also knows how to tackle the predicament of a window without a view. Keith tells us his quick fix for windows with a less than stellar view.

By Keith Lichtman

One of the most frustrating issues to tackle in design can be the view—or lack thereof, to be more precise. In my own space, each end of my both my living room and my dining room consists of a shallow but beautiful bay window. The problem? Both of these beautiful bay windows look out onto not-so-beautiful brick walls.

Did I mention that my entry foyer also has fantastic brick wall views as well? I knew I had to resolve this issue as a neighboring building is certainly not the site I prefer to see when first entering an apartment—especially mine.

To enhance the non-views, I placed flower boxes on each of the outside window ledges and filled them with tall green grasses. My natural woven shades allow whatever light there is to peak in and they always are kept 2/3 of the way down to block most of the brick wall. You would never know there is no view because of the new focal point I've created!
