A Time to Reflect with Photographer Alistair Morrison

British Photographer Alistair Morrison has captured many famous faces over the years  In  a Unicef book,  A Time to Reflect, he gathered celeb snapshots in  photo booths around the globe for the  millenium.  Last week, he situated the booth in the Andrew Martin Showroom in the D and D Annex, where he shot the famous, broadways bright lights and other luminaries. The images will appear in an article for The London Telegraph and in a TV documentary.  We went over to Andrew Martin Showroom to talk with Alistair about the project.

You are a celebrity photographer, why use a photo booth for this project?

The booth adds a humanizing quality. An image with a camera is not available in 3 minutes as it is with the booth. The participants are looking in a mirror and it gives them the ability to show some vulnerability as an actor, on a human level.

Why this project with Unicef?

In 1997 I was asked to help with Unicef,  after I became known as a celebrity photographer, and I arranged to bring kids on movie sets with Unicef. They then asked me to create a book of photographs for the millenium, and I decided to use a photo booth where stars took their own pictures and left messages. This has a simplicity to it that is easy to achieve, and it gets to the soul of the individuals.

What have people's reactions been to shooting in the Andrew Martin Showroom?

People have been intrigued by the setting, because we normally do this in hotels.  They liked having it in a living room-like setting.

What are your favorite shots so far?

Tamara Tunie from Law and Order because she sang a Seal song in the booth, and Billy Connoly, since I took he did this ten years ago for this project and his honesty really came across.
